When to replace
A printhead is a consumable. It wears with every label that passes under it, and the failure is gradual rather than sudden. Thin white lines running down the length of a barcode, patchy fill on solid blocks, and scanners needing a second or third pass are all signs the head is near the end of its life.
203 dpi in practice
203 dpi works out to 8 dots per millimetre. It is the standard resolution for shipping labels, carton marking, pallet placards and general logistics work, where codes are large enough that extra resolution adds cost without adding readability.
